Top Antivirus

Just a few years ago I used to surf the internet with very limited antivirus security, and it was just antivirus software at that, it didn’t even detect spyware.  This means that one day I logged onto my computer to see that there were ads popping up.  Thinking this was very peculiar I go down too look at the toolbar to see if I’m running the internet.  Lo and behold I was not running the internet and I was getting pop-ups on my computer.  Later on I remember watching a news report telling internet surfers about dreaded “spyware” and how they make ads pop up on your computer, steal, and spy on your information without you even knowing.  From that day forth I’ve tried quite a lot of antivirus software, both free anti-virus and subscription, and I’ve finally settled on what works extremely well for me; a program called VIPRE.

Overview

The biggest two problems that I’ve had with what antivirus software to use are that they slow down my computer, and that they don’t find enough spyware or viruses.  There has even been antivirus software that crashed my computer every time I turned it on.  Also my computer would also have unexpected problems once in a while, which later I found those problems were attributed to the lack of antivirus protection.  My experience with VIPRE has been very positive one, especially with VIPRE running on multiple computers.  These computers used to occasionally blue-screen and have general weird problems when I would run a new program or download a new update, but VIPRE just seemed to make my computer work whenever I installed it.

The installation of this antivirus security takes a while because of all the definitions that VIPRE has to download.  There is a rescue scanner that you can download here.  The reason for this rescue scanner is to remove any threats off of your computer if they are preventing the installation of VIPRE.  I would imagine you could use this in addition to another antivirus system if you so desire.

Features

There is the usual email protection, active protection, and antivirus update checking that normally come with an antivirus system. However, VIPRE comes with an aftermarket PC explorer tool where you can access downloaded ActiveX controls, running internet applications, windows host file, and a few other files that are normally difficult to access without a little Google searching for answers.  Other tools include a history eraser that completely erases browsing history, and a secure file eraser that erases any file from your computer no-strings-attached.  However the secure file eraser does not work in 64 bit based systems, at least not yet.

Conclusion

The subscription is rather cheap, with the initial purchase about $30 from Amazon, and then $10 every two years to renew it.  You could upgrade to VIPRE premium for $10 which includes cookie detection, desktop firewall, intrusion prevention, ad blocking, malicious website blocking, and script blocking.  This product is a great value for the price, won’t clog up your computer while it is running, and will keep it in tip top shape.
